Subproject C1 investigates transition-enabled mechanisms on the lower three layers PHY, MAC and NET and their mutual interactions in wireless multihop networks. To this end, the coexistence of different communication patterns such as multipoint-to-point and multipoint-to-multipoint is investigated in a transition-enabled cross-layer optimization framework. A novel multihop control mechanism facilitates the efficient coordination of transition decisions. In order to perform proactive transitions, external environmental conditions are considered besides application demands. For the coordination of coexistent multi-mechanisms, software-defined MAC mechanisms are investigated.
