Ingenium - MAKI Workshop

Workshop „Schematic Visualization of Technical Systems“

Trainerin: Susanne Berger, Visual. Science. Communication.

Datum: 28. Februar 2019, 09:00 – 17:00 Uhr

Ort: S1|21, Magdalenenstr. 25, Raum A 105

Beschreibung:

What is the first thing we scientists look at in scientific articles or on posters? The figures! But they are not only meant to be eye-catching. They can convey information with a density that words can never attain. Because figures are so powerful in communicating scientific data and concepts, extra care should be taken when designing them. In this workshop, you will learn basic design rules and how to apply those rules to your figures. We will focus on schematic visualizations and how to structure them to be easily accessible and interpretable to the reader.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • You understand basic design rules and how to apply them in the design of schematic figures.
  • You know how and why these design rules positively aid in understanding the message of a figure.
  • You know how to structure a figure and create a visual hierarchy.
  • You are able to spot how figures can be improved.
  • You know about different color palettes, where to find them, and how to use them.
