Abstract
Being a child of future internet research, Software Defined Networking (SDN) has evolved and matured over the last 10 years. We outline three major benefits from the SDN approach and dive deeper into programmability, a key feature very often overlooked when talking about SDN. We further explain the relation to network functions virtualization and disaggregation. The presentation includes learnings from the past years, industry adoption and concludes with an outlook on what is ahead of us.
