Abstract
Networked embedded systems are surrounding us and we depend on them in our daily life. For example, these systems are used for building automation, process automation in factories or to monitor patients in hospitals. It is therefore necessary to implement security mechanisms for these devices to ensure resilience against attacks and to prevent misuse. In this talk I will describe three novel security mechanisms for networked embedded systems and their implementation. First I will present a wireless firewall for home automation networks. Jamming is used to prevent nodes from processing unsolicited messages. Second I will describe a framework for confidential data storage on flash memory of embedded systems. System performance and security concerns can be balanced. Third, I will describe a 6LoWPAN extension for IPSec which allows us to interconnect securely wireless embedded systems with the Internet.
