“From SDN Testbed to CERN: Operating IaaS at different scales”

Abstract:
How the experiences as student assistant at MAKI provided at least one career path to supporting international research collaborations with over 10000 members at CERN and world-wide. The SDN testbed is a facility to provide infrastructure for experiments at MAKI. It includes SDN switches, servers with multiple network cards and a virtualization cluster with flexible configuration to provide setups for research and education. At CERN the private cloud provides resources for the different services from the administration to control systems as well as from development environments to multi cluster analysis facilities. This talk shows similarities of the different tasks operating the MAKI SDN testbed and how the operation of IaaS works at a different scale at CERN.
